David Riswick is the head honcho at John Woolfe Racing
and was a pivotal figure in UK drag racing for many years.

The John Woolfe Racing Archives contain lots of pictures of non-JWR cars.  Here are a couple of shots of Paula Murphy in her STP-sponsored Plymouth Duster funny car which went on to become Houndog 7 driven by Owen Hayward.

Left and below : a couple of rare shots by Custom Car photographer Roger Phillips of Clive Skilton's Second Revolution top fuel dragster without its front body panels.

Santa Pod's Wheelie Stingray in action with Roy Phelps at the controls.

'Powerful Pierre', aka Peter Quinn, caught this great shot of the late Alan Wigmore leaving the line in his Itzaviva competition altered.

Two more shots from Peter show Reuben Johnson and Colin Mullan's Invader altered launching hard.
On the left Santa Pod, on the right Silverstone.

The legendary 'Big Daddy' Don Garlits on one of his two visits to the UK during the mid-1970s.  Notice how he is calmly studying the engine and tyres in his rear view mirror.

1974 and more top fuel action from the International meeting held at Santa Pod that year.  In the foreground is the late Tony 'The Loner' Nancy with Clive Skilton behind in his newly imported ex-Kuhl & Olson Castrol Revolution.

The evil-handling Firefly fueller with its original straight front axle.
Several people drove this car over the years but the late Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge got the majority of the seat time.

A close up study by Ron Bailey of 'Wild Bill' Weichelt driver of the ex-Dos Palmos dragster which he re-named Asmodeus.

According to my records John Everitt was the driver of Hang 'em High! so that should be him on the left.  Dave has identified ex-JWR employee Chris Larkins in the centre, and Chris has kindly written in to identify the third man as Tony Preston.

Freddie Whittle in his Shutdown AA/FA is beckoned into stage by Chief Start Line Marshal Stu Bradbury.  The bearded figure behind the car is Pip Higham who went on to have considerable success on two wheels and British drag racing pioneer Mike Lintern is behind him.  Custom Car photographer Roger Phillips is kneeling by the tower.

A nicely posed shot of the Dynapac sponsored team of Anders Lantz.

Now on to some real action shots starting with this great shot by Hugh Rhodes of Danny Johnson performing a flame burn out on his single engined Harley top fuel bike.

Any type of major engine problem is scary in a slingshot dragster.  The Fast Lady Ros Prior has blown the supercharger clean off her ex-Mr Six fueller in this shot which Dave believes was taken at Mantorp Park in Sweden.

Exciting times for Chief Start Line Marshal Stu Bradbury as Gerry Andrews loses control of his Pro Comp dragster Hemi Hunter II during the burn out and heads straight for him.

This must be the biggest jet-powered exhibition car ever built.
Santa Pod's massive Scorpion being manoeuvred in the pits by a posse of crewmen.

These pictures were taken at the 1970 Internationals meeting at Santa Pod.  Standing by the Valkyrian Top Fuel Dragster are Tage Hammerman, Rune Lindholm (the first chairman of the Swedish Hot Rod Association), Björn Andersson and Bosse Carlsson.  Björn was sitting in for the Valkyrian's usual driver John Andersson (no relation) who was doing National Service in the Swedish Army.  Björn Andersson's own dragster Sub Sonic was withdrawn from competition due to a damaged crank.

The Valkyrian chassis was built in a cellar and they had to tear down a wall to get it out the house.  John Andersson crashed the car at Mantorp later that year when he passed out during a run.  This could have been really nasty as the roll cage was ripped off in the accident.  John suffered a badly broken leg and smashed his jaw.  The engine was salvaged and went into the Valkyrian rear engined fueller.

My thanks to Tage Hammerman, Roger Phillips and Andy Barrack
for providing information on certain of the pictures on this page.
