Kent Persson drove for P & G at the 1992 Finals as Pelle had strained his back.

The team enjoyed a renewed, if brief, backing from Clarion at the start of 1993.

THE EX-KENNY BERNSTEIN BUDWEISER CAR

The Acceleration Archive: Okay, so the Dick LaHaie car lasted from 1988 to 1990.  Then you bought the ex-Bernstein car but had to wait until 1992 before racing again.  Who were your sponsors when you came back in 1992?

Pelle Lindelöw: Well we sold the LaHaie car to Per Danielsson in the south of Sweden (where it later became a Top Methanol Dragster) and bought the Budweiser car in early 1991, after a hint from Micke Kågered that there was a car for sale.  Me and Janne Carlsson went to LA to take a look at the car.  We weren’t too impressed as the chassis was bent from too many wheelstands, but there were no cracks and although it was partially rebuilt before being shipped to Sweden, we were advised not to try and straighten it out as this would stress the chassis.  The car never did give us any handling problems, it just looked peculiar, though ‘the banana’ looked a lot better when we later gave it a new body and a higher windshield.
By the way, I actually met King Kenny in his shop when we were checking out his car.  One of his guys introduced us by saying, "Hey Kenny these are the guys from Sweden that are buying your old T/F" but Kenny just replied with a grunt and a "huh".  I don't know if that means that I know him now, but at least I've been at arm's length to The Budweiser King.
But I digress, the car arrived too late in 1991 and we decided to use the winter to assemble everything properly.
As for sponsors, from 1992 onwards we didn't secure any more major deals - even if hopefully it looked like we had!  But thanks to all the smaller sponsors and spare parts - and the best crew around - we managed to keep going for nearly another 10 years.
