Andy Barrack was a man who liked to photograph fast things.  And when I say fast I mean incredibly fast, faster even than that legendary rocket man Slam'n' Sammy Miller.  For it is a little-known fact that Andy was one of an elite group of photographers whose profession was using sophisticated equipment to create images of shells exiting the barrels of artillery pieces and naval guns at supesonic speeds.  It seems that in ballistics that initial launch is as vital to a predictable trajectory as a good 60 foot time is to a good time in drag racing.
Having said all that the following pictures are almost all of stationary cars!
Andy's widow Janet has kindly made available a number of images taken on a trip they made to Sweden in 2008 to form this, the last page, in Andy's collection.

Although this is the last page of Andy's rather modest collection it represents only a tiny part of his contribution to the site.  He was the first person to contact me in April 2002 shortly after the site was first publicised on Eurodragster.  After that we exchanged hundreds and hundreds of e-mails and he constantly provided advice and many snippets of information for the captions.
The very existence of The Roger Phillips Collection within The Acceleration Archive is entirely due to the efforts of Andy Barrack.  He somehow managed to track Roger down, persuaded him to loan his collection for scanning and publication, and then set about scanning 1,776 images (he let me do the other 464).  He then thought up the form in which he would display the collection and virtually the entire structure for this part of the site was born.
Although Andy's knowledge of drag racing was encyclopaedic, he recognised that a little bit of expert help could never go amiss.  If you read through the pages in Roger's collection (which I hope you will) you will find contributions from such luminaries of the sport as Clive Rooms, Ian Messenger, Jim Reynolds, Martin Hagon (son of Alf Hagon), Keith Lee, John Hobbs, Tony Thacker (of the NHRA Museum), Steve Murty and Chris Dossett (Trakbytes).  Oops, I almost forgot - check out page 1 to see the superb input from none other than the 'King of the Dragsters' himself - the legendary 'Big Daddy' Don Garlits.  I took up the mantle from page 9 of the collection onwards and I am finding it a very hard act to follow.

The magnificently detailed article on the P&G Racing team of Pelle Lindelöw and Gunnar Elmqvist is yet another example of Andy's unerring attention to detail and highly innovative style.
